In many rural communities across Kenya, especially in marginalized regions like Kajiado County, young people face overwhelming odds. From limited access to quality education to gender inequality, poverty, and cultural barriers, their potential often remains untapped.
But at Esarunoto Community-Based Organization, we believe every young person — especially girls — deserves the opportunity to dream, grow, and lead. That’s where mentorship comes in.
🔹 Why Mentorship Matters
Mentorship is more than just guidance — it’s about walking with someone through life’s transitions. For girls and youth in underserved areas, having a trusted mentor means:
-
A safe space to ask questions and express fears.
-
Positive role models who reflect what’s possible.
-
Access to knowledge and life skills often not taught in classrooms.
-
Emotional support during critical moments of decision-making.
At Esarunoto, we’ve seen firsthand how mentorship transforms lives — boosting self-esteem, improving school performance, preventing early marriage, and unlocking leadership potential.
🔹 Our Mentorship Approach at Esarunoto
We design our mentorship programs with cultural relevance, dignity, and long-term support in mind. Our model includes:
-
One-on-One Mentorship: Girls are paired with trusted women mentors from the community or Esarunoto alumni who’ve walked similar journeys.
-
Peer-Led Support Circles: Safe spaces for girls to connect, share, and grow together.
-
Life Skills & Leadership Workshops: Focused on self-confidence, reproductive health, financial literacy, and public speaking.
-
Career Exposure & Digital Literacy: Helping girls visualize professional paths and access tools for a changing world.
-
Culturally-Responsive Guidance: We engage parents and community leaders to support girls’ journeys.
🔹 Real Stories. Real Change.
“Before Esarunoto, I never thought I could be anything more than a wife. Now, I’m preparing to become a teacher — and I mentor girls in my village.”
— Nasha, 17, Mentorship Program Graduate
Each year, dozens of girls and youth go through our mentorship programs and emerge with renewed confidence and purpose — many going on to secondary school, university, or starting their own youth initiatives.
🔹 What’s Next?
We’re expanding our mentorship programs to reach more remote areas, train more local mentors, and introduce digital mentorship for hard-to-reach youth.
